DID YOU KNOW?  Christmas became a national holiday in America
                        in 1870.
AROUND THE HOUSE: Make your own windshield deicer! Combine 1 part
antifreeze with 4 1/2 parts alcohol & 4 1/2 parts water and pour into your
windshield washer fluid reservoir.
--Spray your snow shovel with nonstick cooking spray to help snow slide off
easily.
--Clean the leaves of your house plants with a cotton ball dipped in  milk or
olive oil.
--Give your house a holiday smell by simmering apple cider with a cinnamon
stick, a few whole cloves & a strip of orange peel.
FEATURED SUBSTITUTE:  No crumb crust?
Grind about 14 square graham crackers or about 22 cookie wafers
(any variety) in blender or food processor. Combine with 2-3
tablespoons sugar, if needed and about 3 tablespoons butter. Press
into bottom and partway up sides of pie dish.

BANANA SMOOTHIES & POPS                             Mixture makes 4 cups
1 (14-oz.) can sweetened condensed milk (not evaporated milk)
8 ounces vanilla or banana-flavored yogurt
2 ripe bananas
1/2 cup orange juice

For smoothies: Process all ingredients in blender until smooth. Pour into
                   glasses to serve.
For pops: Spoon mixture into 8 (5-oz) paper cups. Freeze 30 minutes. Insert
a wooden craft stick into each pop. Freeze until firm. Makes 8.
FUN IDEA!  MAKE YOUR OWN CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS!
You'll need: 4 cups flour/1 cup salt/1 teaspoon powdered alum/1 1/2 cups (or more) water
Mix all ingredients together well in a large bowl, adding more water (a little bit at a time) if dough seems too dry.
Roll out to 1/8" thick or shape no more than 1/2" thick. May add a few drops of food coloring to the dough, if you
want --work it in until well-blended. Or you may leave the dough plain so you can paint it after it dries.

Cut dough with Christmas cookie cutters or make into whatever shapes you want. Poke a small hole through the
dough about 1/4" from the top so that you can put string or wire through it later for hanging.

Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 30 minutes at 250 degrees. Turn ornaments over and bake 90 minutes more,
until hard and dry. Immediately remove from cookie sheet to wire rack to cool.

May paint cookies after they have cooled.

Heat oven to 325 degrees.
Line a jelly roll pan with foil; spray foil. In a
small pan over medium heat, combine honey,
butter & cinnamon; bring to a boil. Cook for
2 minutes, stirring constantly.
In a large bowl, toss nuts with the honey
mixture, stirring until all nuts are coated.
Spread onto the pan. Bake 10-15 minutes or
until nuts are glazed & lightly browned.
WATCH CLOSELY---THEY BURN EASILY!
Cool on the pan 20-30 minutes. Pour into a
